We are running our Wednesday morning Tech Help from 10 to 12  at the Milson Community Centre,
Please feel free to email - [email protected], or give us a call, to make a booking.  Then come along and get those questions or problems sorted.  Anything Tech-related is fine with us.   When you make a booking can you please describe what sort of assistance you need.  It helps with our scheduling.  ​ Thanks ​

Starting a Family Tree ​
Wednesday 10am- 11:30am  
What, where, who, how, why.
Researching your family tree is a great thing to do.  You can gain knowledge of the people that came before you, where they lived, and what they did.  The Internet has many resources, both free and paid, to help in this endeavour. 
This week we will look at the basics of what to do and some free places to look for information and research.  
If you have an interest in learning more about this subject, please come along.  If you are already doing this then come along to spread your knowledge and also learn more.  
All of these morning sessions are stand alone sessions,
so please feel free to attend any (or all) of them.  ​

SeniorNet 
​Manawatū
Help Wanted.  
​We are looking for a volunteer to take control of our SeniorNet Manawatū Facebook Page.  It would be good to see some activity on our page, and to spread the word about what we do.  If you have some experience using Facebook and would like to help, please contact us - [email protected].  We can help with any of the technical aspects of Facebook Pages.  
We are also looking for more tutors, and for people who would like to join our committee.  If you or someone you know is interested please contact us.

We are still looking for volunteers who would like help with greeting and assisting our members on Wednesday morning as they arrive for Tech Help sessions.  This would be from just before 10 AM until about 11:45 AM.  The tasks are not onerous, they include:
  • Welcoming people as they arrive.
  • Signing people in (we have a very simple system to do this).
  • Taking the cash for the session, and writing a receipt.
  • Making sure that people know what’s going on.
  • Talking with anyone who want to know more about what we do.

New to 2026​
There will be two new morning sessions this year Family History and Google tools to replace our photos and Documents Groups (which may return later). 

Wednesday mornings at milson will have an opertunity to partisipate in Memoirs, Digital Toolbox, Family History and Google Tools, the sessions will run for 90 minutes once a month 
1st Wednesday - Memoirs
2nd Wednesday - Digital Toolbox
3rd Wednesday - Family History
4th Wednesday - Google Tools
​All of these morning sessions are stand alone - so please feel free to attend any (or all) of them.

​SeniorHangouts

​Using SeniorHangouts.  
To Join SeniorHangouts you must be a member of a local SeniorNet Learning Centre.  You need to let us know if you want to join up, as we have to indicate to SeniorHangouts that you are a financial member of our SeniorNet Learning Centre. 
​There are two ways to do this:
  1. Drop us an email with your name, email address and phone number or fill in this Form.  Once we have done our bit you will get an email from SeniorHangouts with a link to Register.  There you enter your details and a password that you will later use to enter the site.
  2. Book a Tech Help session and come along with your device.  We will then go through the sign-up process with you, and show you the basics of using SeniorHangouts.
[Note that there is a couple of days' delay after registering on SeniorHangouts before you can access it - this is to allow time for our volunteers to authorise your registration].

How to protect yourself

Use strong passwords on your accounts
  • Use a different password for each of your cloud-based accounts. For example, don’t use the same password for your Facebook account as you do for Netflix. That way, if someone gets access to one of your account passwords, they won’t get easy access to your other accounts as well. 
    Make your account passwords long and strong –
    ​try short sentences that are easy to remember.
  • How to create good passwords
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) Keep offline backups
  • ​If there's something that you really don't want to lose, or really don't want other people to find, don't store it in the cloud.
    Store it offline instead.
  • Back up your data and devices
